Deep Adaptation
Making sense in challenging times
Hello my name is Matthew and I’m a Deep Adaptation Coach.
I accompany people who are deeply distressed about what is happening on Earth, who are seeking to make better sense of it all and who may be struggling to know how to act for the best.
When the world is irrational and the future appears to be somewhere we no longer want to arrive, a deeper kind of support is needed to make sense of things.
I have been coaching and facilitating for over ten years, I love it more than anything else and I never cease to be amazed at the wisdom that shows up when we go looking for it.
But in 2018 I had a ‘meltdown’, as the scope, scale and momentum of the planetary crisis took up residence in my soul and unravelled me. I was overwhelmed with grief, anxiety and despair which I now realise I had been living with for years, whilst carrying on in ‘business as usual’.
Over several years and through hundreds of hours of conversation I have developed compassionate and effective skills, tools, frames and processes which help people transmute aspects of their reality-distress into wise and enlivening action for the best.
I also collaborate with coaches, therapists, activists, facilitators and educators who are seeking to deepen and enrich their skills and practice with regard to the growing epidemic of distress and anxiety as a result of the planetary scale crisis we now find ourselves in.

“I just had a one-off coaching conversation with Matthew and I am just elated. The word ‘conversation’ does not do justice to what happened during those 90 minutes”
